Religion for Breakfast is an award-winning YouTube channel with over one million subscribers. Hosted by Dr. Andrew Henry (PhD, Boston University), the channel explores the academic study of religion through historically grounded, intellectually rigorous, and engaging educational videos.
As the channel expands its presence across YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, and TikTok, we are seeking a Researcher & Production Assistant to help translate serious scholarship into high-impact short-form digital media while maintaining a long-form video production schedule.
You will help shape how religious studies research reaches a global audience.
Role Overview:
This position supports both long-form YouTube production and the strategic expansion of short-form video content. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable reading scholarly articles and thinking in 60-second video scripts.
A major goal of this role is to grow Religion for Breakfast’s short-form presence while maintaining its academic credibility and intellectual depth.
Key Responsibilities:
Short-Form Content Development (Primary Focus):
Identify compelling moments from long-form episodes and adapt them into short-form scripts.
Develop original short-form concepts based on academic research, historical anniversaries, or cultural trends.
Draft tight 30–90 second scripts optimized for clarity, pacing, and audience retention.
Craft strong hooks, concise narrative arcs, and platform-appropriate titles.
Assist in writing captions and metadata tailored to YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, and TikTok.
Track performance trends and collaborate on iterative improvements.
Research & Scholarship:
Locate, read, and summarize scholarly sources in religious studies, history, anthropology, and related fields.
Produce structured research briefs to support long-form video scripts.
Verify historical details and manage citations with precision.
Identify public-domain images, artwork, and archival materials.
Story Development & Production Support:
Collaborate with Dr. Henry on narrative structure and episode planning.
Contribute to idea development for both long-form and short-form content.
Assist in preparing scripts, captions, thumbnails, and publishing materials.
Support scheduling and workflow coordination.
Qualifications:
MA (or advanced BA) in Religious Studies, History, Anthropology, or a related field.
Excellent written and spoken English.
Strong academic research skills and familiarity with citation practices.
Ability to translate complex scholarship into clear, compelling scripts for general audiences.
Demonstrated understanding of short-form video structure (strong hooks, rapid pacing, audience retention).
Preferred
Familiarity with media production workflows (Adobe Premiere, Photoshop, Audition, or similar).
Experience writing for non-academic audiences (journalism, blogs, public scholarship, online courses).
Familiarity with YouTube analytics or social media performance metrics.
